After making a string of relatively successful skateboarding animations on TikTok/Instagram with my character Andy, I thought it might be fun to do a tribute to a real-life skate icon. After finding the original clip of Kareem Campbell stomping the very first ghetto bird, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

I wanted to experiment a bit with a different kind of video format that’s both animation and behind the scenes breakdown. I’m always seeking new ways to make my content, especially short-form clips like these, more interesting and worth a watch (especially if it hopes to end up on YouTube eventually). I recorded a timelapse of myself animating the scene as well as myself editing the video in After Effects and explaining my process in a way that hopefully is clear and makes sense.
